Gutenberg 24.3 improves editing across block boundaries, collaboration notes and media selection. Text formatting now applies to selections spanning multiple blocks, while dragging and Shift-clicking preserve more predictable selection behaviour. For editors working on long-form content, this reduces the need to format each block separately without changing the underlying block-based publishing model.
Notes now support emoji reactions, clearer links to the content they reference and draft markers for unsent comments. The Media inserter has been rebuilt around the DataViews grid also used in the Site Editor, bringing a more consistent interface to media browsing; audio and other non-image, non-video files also receive previews. Pattern discovery gains an author filter, and read-only synced patterns can be detached.
The release also addresses a routine but consequential failure point: saving. Notices provide copyable details, show HTTP status codes when available, explain autosave failures without a server response and indicate when another attempt is due. These diagnostics give site teams more actionable information when investigating interrupted editorial work. Gutenberg 24.3 includes the security fixes from WordPress 7.1.4, alongside further design-tool support across blocks and small navigation and typography improvements.
