Figma-to-WordPress conversion is less an export task than a translation between design structure and WordPress components. Results depend on whether the Figma file expresses layout and reuse clearly: Auto Layout can map to flexbox, while components and variants can become block patterns or reusable page-builder elements. Unstructured, absolutely positioned layers leave converters and AI agents to infer intent, often producing layouts that need substantial correction.
Model Context Protocol (MCP) offers a direct route: an AI agent reads a design through a Figma MCP server, then creates elements through a WordPress connection, avoiding an intermediate export. Figma’s official server can expose variables and Code Connect mappings; the community Framelink server reads files through the Figma API. On WordPress, the Abilities API and MCP Adapter expose permitted actions, while builder or plugin integrations can provide context for creating native elements. Core access remains limited.
A reliable workflow still begins with design-system preparation. Figma variables can map to theme.json presets or builder globals, text styles to typography settings, and Auto Layout frames to block or builder containers. Replacing hard-coded colours and font sizes with variables, naming layers clearly, and exporting icons as SVG and images as WebP or AVIF improve consistency. These steps matter regardless of whether the implementation uses MCP, a converter plugin, a custom block theme, or a manual builder rebuild.
